il mare, italian for 'the sea'. An inspiring story of a time traveling romance between two people using a mailbox as a medium.
The story begins at the last quarter of 1999, as voice-over actress Eun-joo (Jun Ji-hyun) was moving out of a seaside home named 'Il Mare'. But before leaving, Eun-joo leaves a letter with a message asking the eventual new owner to forward any mail for her to her new address in the city. Meanwhile, exactly two years earlier, in 1997, il mare's first owner, architect Sung-hyun (Lee Jung-jae), receives Eun-joo's card. Thinking that someone's making a prank, he writes back to Eun-joo and asks her not to tamper with his mailbox anymore, while pointing out that the 'current year' is 1997.
A slow paced movie but intriguing. It has a great cinematography. The scenery and music gives a depressing feeling and solitude.
This is by the way the original of the Hollywood remake "Lake House"
